I'm an independent filmmaker in the Columbia area with over twenty-five years' experience. Over the next several years, I'll be shooting a number of feature films in and around Howard County. Both historical subjects and genre (literary science fiction). I do almost nothing in the "usual" way. So I don't want to hear anything about SAG, AFTRA, DPs, ADs or AVID Suites... My process and organization bears little resemblance to Hollywood or the American indie film scene. I'm not looking for distributution deals or festival entries; I sell it myself to home video markets... I own two complete Arri rigs (and everything else that may be required) and may be shooting in anamorphic16. [I'd consider DV if I could find a suitable format (unlikely).]
If you're willing to cast aside everything you've ever learned about filmmaking and try something quite different, make an epic on a shoestring budget that actually IS epic... [Think BBC/Merchant-Ivory here. Impossible!, you say; then you have much to learn!] If you're willing to work weeknights and weekends for a gross percentage in a film that will actually make money...
